April 23, 2024
Take the driver’s seat to advance your career with commercial driver’s license education and training, soon to be available at Jackson College’s Central Campus!
Jackson College will collaborate with Trainco Truck Driving School to bring CDL courses to campus. With classroom and driving instructions available on campus, you can complete the coursework and earn a CDL-A license in just three weeks! The first session will begin on May 13, 2024.
“We have heard from local businesses that CDL-A training would be beneficial,” said Amber Collins, director of workforce training. “There’s a need for workers with CDL licenses among many local employers, such as utilities, municipalities, and delivery services. There’s always a demand for truck drivers.”
Students may choose a 15-day Class A Manual or Automatic Program for $4,995 (additional fees required for DOT physical, DOT drug test & CDL driving exam). Because this is workforce training, it is not eligible for financial aid, but some state assistance may be available from Michigan Works! Southeast.
Trainco Truck Driving Schools is based out of Toledo, Ohio, and offers full-service CDL training programs to prepare for careers the trucking industry. Prepare for your CDL driving exam while learning in full-size, Class A tractor-trailer combinations. Interested students should have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Jackson College will begin with CDL-A training but hope to expand to future training in Class A Pintle Hook, CDL-B and CDL-BP (school bus).
Truck drivers are in demand in Michigan, which is projected to see about 13 percent growth in job openings over the next several years. A new CDL-A driver’s average income for year one will be around $75,000, with a range from about $55,000 to as high as $110,00 annually.
