Experience ‘The Moon in Detail’ at Observatory Event

March 27, 2025

Come enjoy hands-on learning at an unforgettable night of lunar exploration right here in Jackson! Bring the whole family and take a closer look at Earth’s nearest neighbor when Jackson College presents The Moon in Detail, a free community event on Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m.

Hosted by Astronomical Observatory Coordinator Travis Marlow, this engaging evening will begin in James McDivitt Hall, Room 151, where guests will enjoy interactive, hands-on activities designed to uncover the moon’s secrets. Discover how the moon formed, what gives it its unique appearance or face, why it changes phases, and more.

Following the indoor session, and weather permitting, attendees will head to the Jackson College Astronomical Observatory for a live viewing of the moon and stars through the College’s high-powered telescope.

“We see the moon almost every night, but how often do we stop to truly understand it?” said Marlow. “This is a fantastic opportunity for families to experience the moon up close, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for our celestial companion.”

This free event is open to the public, with registration required. Please visit https://training.jccmi.edu/courses/the-moon-in-detail-spr25 to register. Don’t miss this chance to explore The Moon in Detail!
