Nailing goals on and off the field

Wyatt Robinson is a man on the move – literally and figuratively. He has made a name for himself as a forward on the soccer team while working at the Jets Store on top of being a full-time college student.

For several semesters, Wyatt has been a jack-of-all-trades at the Jets Store.

Whether he is stocking shelves, tidying up, replenishing retail spaces or manning the cash register, he keeps running smoothly.

“Balancing it all is definitely tough,” he said. “I’ve had troubles, but I think being here is very flexible. Heather Wollet does a great job with my schedule. It’s just a lot of work, hard work, late nights after soccer practice, doing homework, coming from work to soccer. It’s definitely rewarding.”

When it came time to choose a college, Jackson College checked all the boxes for Wyatt. The campus felt like home and the chance to continuing playing soccer helped.

“I have a lot of great memories with the team like on the bus rides. I love just being with the guys,” Wyatt said.

While this past soccer season did not go exactly as planned, Wyatt is optimistic about the future of the program.

“I think the new coach Todd Derby is putting together a good program for the next few years,” he said. “The way that I’ve seen him put in effort and really trying to build relationships with the guys, I think the program will be a lot better in the future.”

Wyatt hasn’t been tackling his packed schedule alone. He credits his support system including his mom, the foundation office and his supervisor Jets Store Manager Heather Wollet for keeping him on the right track.

“They’ve all helped me a lot with scholarships, finding classes and making sure everything is right,” Wyatt said.

Whether he is scoring goals, helping customers or working towards his dreams, Wyatt’s hard work and determination will help him in his next milestones.

He is set to graduate this spring with an associate in business administration. Next stop: Michigan State University where he plans to pursue an economics degree and a certificate in financial planning. His ultimate goal? Becoming a financial advisor.

“Money, finance, the way the world works is all something that interests me,” he said.
