Fitness Court Studio creates free exercise opportunities for the Jackson College community
JACKSON, Mich. – [July 29, 2024]) Jackson College; Priority Health, a nationally recognized nonprofit health plan; and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) are pleased to announce the opening of an outdoor Priority Health Fitness Court® Studio at Jackson College Central Campus on Aug. 12, 2024, at 5 p.m. This launch is made possible thanks to the statewide partnership between Priority Health and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities.
“At Priority Health, we believe all people have the right to a healthy life and that’s why we are committed to investing in the community to help reduce barriers to free, accessible fitness and improve wellness for the neighbors of Jackson,” said Praveen Thadani, president of Priority Health. “We are excited to partner with Jackson College and the National Fitness Campaign to open this Priority Health Fitness Court Studio as we continue to expand on this initiative across the state.”
With 7,320 active users in 2023, it’s estimated that over 41.2 million calories and 13,071 pounds are burned in one year on the Priority Health Fitness Court network.
This new Fitness Court Studio at Jackson College is an open-air wellness center that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout. The Fitness Court Studio features two workout areas separated by a mural wall designed by artists to showcase the setting and to inspire people as they enjoy the benefits and energy created by a great outdoor workout. The Fitness Court Studio delivers the powerful seven minute full body workout on one side and a versatile outdoor class area for enjoying yoga, Zumba, Pilates and other popular group wellness activities on the opposite side.
Created with adults of all ages in mind, the Fitness Court Studio is adaptable for all fitness levels. They can also be used in group or solo settings with local volunteer ambassadors leading classes for groups. New and solo users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your-pocket style platform — that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem. The Fitness Court App is available for iOS and Android.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome Jackson College to the campaign as a leader in Michigan, championing health and wellness for their campus community,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court Studio, along with group fitness and digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
Jackson College is home to the 22nd Priority Health Fitness Court. Priority Health and NFC will open at least 30 additional Fitness Courts by the end of 2027. Priority Health’s mission in this partnership is to increase access to free, high-quality exercise for all people – including those with disabilities. NFC developed the trademarked seven-station system in 2012 to inspire municipalities to transform public spaces into community fitness hubs. NFC’s award-winning initiative is celebrating its 500th healthy community, including cities in Michigan such as Detroit, Grand Rapids, Madison Heights, Highland Park, Lansing, Big Rapids, Traverse City and Saginaw.
“Jackson College is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the National Fitness Campaign to introduce an outdoor Priority Health Fitness Court Studio to the campus. Offering healthy and enjoyable fitness options for our students, staff, and community aligns with Jackson College’s dedication to holistic well-being,” said JC President, Dr. Daniel J. Phelan. “We invite and encourage everyone to come out, try this new fitness court, and discover new ways to incorporate fitness into their daily lives.”
