Comedy Series continues with 'Hormonal Imbalance' Jan. 30-31

Get ready for some hot entertainment when Jackson Community College welcomes the estrogen-fueled “Hormonal Imbalance,” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 & 31 in the Michael Baughman Theatre, Potter Center.

This “Mood Swinging Musical Revue” starts with four richly gifted singer-songwriters, who, with sorority sister chemistry, perform original songs and stories offering both poignant views and unbridled comedic commentary on the joys and dilemmas of everyday life. With heavenly harmony, they share women’s struggles to balance careers and family, chocolate obsessions and low carb inner peace, CNN and TV Land, and finally, dealing with inadequate pay and inadequately cut swimwear.

Comprising the group are Debi Smith, Sally Fingerett, Nancy Moran and Deirdre Flint.

  • Having received seven Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies) including Best Vocalist, Artist, and Album, Smith has been a repeat performer on NPR’s Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, Mountain Stage, and Radio Smithsonian. She has appeared on PBS, CBS Sunday Morning, and Country Music Television (CMT), and has performed at venues including The Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Wolftrap, EPCOT Center, Philadelphia’s Keswick, and NYC’s Bottom Line.
  • Fingerett has been a guest actress with the National Touring Company of the “Vagina Monologues.” She and her music have been heard on NPR’s Whad'Ya Know, Mountain Stage, CNN's Sonya Live, and CBS Sunday Morning and on various stages across the U.S. and Canada, from “Blues by the Moon” in San Francisco to New York’s Carnegie Hall.
  • Declared Songwriter of the Year by the Sound Achievement Awards, Moran has recorded four solo CD’s, and performed internationally at universities, festivals and clubs such as Nashville’s Bluebird, Washington, D.C.’s Birchmere, and Cambridge’s Club Passim. Dirty Linen Magazine says of her: "a powerful, expressive voice... stunning"; Music Monthly says of her: “incredible.” As part of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Arts In Education program, Moran has performed many Arts in Education Residencies.
  • Since Flint’s first CD was released in 1999, she has toured the country, performed at Kerrville Folk Festival (a New Folk Award Winner for writing), Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, the Kennedy Center, and World Café. Her song "Bridesmaid's Lament" has been part of TLC's "Always a Bridesmaid" special. Chosen by WFYY's World Cafe to open the show's new live performance space, Flint's music and humor land her at the intersection where folk music and standup comedy collide.

Tickets are $25 for reserved seats, $20 for students, and are available from the Potter Center Box Office, 517.796.8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu under “Visitors & Events” and “Events.”
