NBC laughfest 'Last Comic Standing' coming to JCC
Laugh to the comedy of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” live tour when it comes to the Jackson Community College Potter Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
The “Last Comic Standing Live Tour” features finalists from the popular series’ sixth season, including winner Iliza Shlesinger, and finalists Jeff Dye, Marcus, Louis Ramey and Jim Tavaré.
- Iliza Shlesinger is the first female and youngest winner of “Last Comic Standing.” Originally from Dallas, Shlesinger moved to Los Angeles after graduating from college, and has been performing in comedy clubs nearly every night since moving to L.A. Shlesinger is looking to be respected as a comedian - - as she says, “funny is funny, it’s you and your material.” Although she is inspired by everyday people and everyday observations, Shlesinger does admire the work of Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Ellen De Generes, Paula Poundstone as well as “Kids in the Hall,” “Saturday Night Live” and “In Living Color.” She loves to write, work out and polish new material, keeping every performance fresh.
- Jeff Dye is a rising star and has performed all over the country. In 2007 he won the Giggles 10th annual Laff Off and took third in the Giggles Laff Off in 2006. Dye was also a semi-finalist in the Seattle international comedy competition. He doesn’t use profanity but is very edgy and creative. His humor takes you in his mind that some have described as a charmingly twisted experience.
- Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Marcus learned at an early age that he has a talent for voices, mastering some of his earliest ones by age 10. Over the next 20 years, Marcus dabbled in all sorts of careers before finding a job at a local radio station anonymously doing celebrity impressions. One day, he was talked into giving stand-up comedy a try, and he never looked back. He quickly developed a following who loved his unique take on impressions and high energy shows.
- Louis Ramey is a sharp-witted humorist who lives and breathes comedy! A popular entertainer on the college campus circuit, he has also appeared on several television shows: “The Nick At Nite Road Crew,” “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, “Last Call with Carson Daly,” “The View,” “Comedy Central Presents: Louis Ramey,” and more. He has also opened for many musical legends such as Ray Charles, Whitney Houston and Smokey Robinson. Jim Tavaré is a comic and musician who hails from England. Prior to his appearance on “Last Comic Standing,” he was best known for his work on “The Sketch Show” on ITV and also plays the role of Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, in “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” An episode of the American series “Wings” was written entirely around his bass act.
Tickets for “Last Comic Standing” are $32, $29 and $26 and are available by calling the Potter Center Box Office at 517.796.8600, or online at www.jccmi.edu under “Visitors and Events” and “Events.”
