Richmond brothers contribute $250,000 to JCC

Jackson Community College is pleased to announce that brothers David and John Richmond will contribute $250,000 to the College.

The Richmonds will contribute $37,500 to the Dr. Wilbur L. Dungy Endowed Chair and another $25,000 for scholarships annually over four years, for a total of $150,000 to the Dungy Endowed Chair and $100,000 for student scholarships. David Richmond, chairman of Richmond Brothers Financial Management Specialists in Jackson, attended the recent fundraiser for the Dungy Endowed Chair, featuring Tony Dungy, son of Wilbur Dungy and head coach of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, along with fellow NFL coaches Rod Marinelli of the Detroit Lions and Lovie Smith of the Chicago Bears. He was impressed with the event that he and his brother decided to contribute to the fund, as well as student scholarships. David Richmond and his wife, Stephanie, both attended JCC, and brother, John, has taken a class at JCC as well.

"We had made a decision to go public with our giving six months to a year ago, and we have been looking for the right venue in which to give," David Richmond said. The brothers have formed a foundation to give back to the community. "When we went to that (the fundraiser), it just felt right. We wanted something broad and diversified. We didn't realize JCC touched quite as many lives as it does."

The Dungy Endowed Chair fundraiser brought in just under $60,000 for the endowment. With the Dungy family's original $200,000 investment, as well as the evening's proceeds and the Richmonds' donation, the fund is just over $400,000. The College continues to collect funds toward a $1 million goal for the Endowed Chair, which will provide a faculty member with resources for professional development, purchase of equipment, promotional development, and development of a conference or similar educational opportunity for students.

Funds for student scholarships will go directly to students. Some donors contribute funds toward an endowment in which the interest is disbursed, but David Richmond wanted the money to go to students.

"We are very thankful and somewhat overwhelmed by the Richmonds' generosity!" said Cindy Allen, executive director of community relations. "This provides a huge boost to two very important areas of the College, and will benefit students for years to come."
