Region XII Tournament Results

After winning their first Regional game against Macomb Community College (13-0), The Jets fell in two games. They suffered a loss to #4 seed Vincennes University (3-4) on a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.  They went on to face a tough #2 seed Grand Rapids Community College and fell 3-8.  The loss to Grand Rapids took Jackson Community College out of the Tournament.  Overall, the Jets had their best season yet, ending with a 43-12 record, and clinching the Michigan Community College Athletic Association championship.

Macomb Community College (Region XII Tournament W 13-0)

The Jets came out swinging in their first game of the 2009 NJCAA Region XII tournament.   Rick Smith was able to get his first win in a regional game as a head coach for Jackson Community College.  Sophomore ace Daniel Bream earned the win with a 13-0 complete game shut-out against Macomb , allowing only two hits and throwing 6 strike-outs. The Jets provided a very impressive defensive show. The JCC infielders had an extraordinary 4 double plays in the 7 inning game.  Lee Finley, Nate Bell, Chris Harrison and Will Faulkner all had multi-hit performances at the plate.  Harrison hit his 10th homerun of the season in the park! The Jets face off at 6:00 against the winner in the Vincennes University vs. Lake Michigan College game.

JCC vs. Adrian College (W 14-12)

The Jets played one last game before heading to Battle Creek for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII tournament.  Ryan Agnew picked up his third win of the season on the mound, while Matt Beckman picked up the save. The final score was 14-12.

JCC vs. Mott Community College (W 7-3, W 15-1)

Game One: The Jets won the contest by a score of 6-3. Zak Gonzalez earned the win on the mound. Kyle Peters came in to earn the save in the seventh.  Bryan Smith, Cameron Worker and Tyler Wehner each had RBIs for the Jets.  The Bear's pitching staff held the Jets to only 6 hits.

Game Two: Corey Cannon picked up the win, throwing 5 innings, while striking out 3.  The Jets won the ball game by a final score of 8-2.  Leading hitters for the Jets was CJ Finch, going 4 for 4 with a double, triple and 2 RBIs. Other multi-hit performances came from Lee Finley, Tyler Wehner and Jose Pagan.  With the win, the Jets finish MCCAA play with a 25-5 record, earning Jackson Community College's first league baseball championship.  Their first place finish gives the Jets the number one seed going into the NJCAA Region XII tournament.  They will face Macomb Community College (#8) on Friday in their first game in the tournnament.

JCC vs. Lake Michigan College (W 7-3, W 15-1)

Game One: Fighting to stay atop the leader board in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association, the Jets put together an impressive game.  Michael Sprinkles improved his record to 6-1 with the victory on the mound.  Freshman third baseman/ pitcher Cameron Worker hit his fourth collegiate homerun to help lead the Jets to this 7-3 victory over Lake Michigan.

Game Two: The second game was extraordinary on both offense and defense.  The 15-1 victory kept MCCAA first place hopes alive for the Jets.  Matthew Jacobson earned his 7th win this season on the mound.  Sophomore short stop Will Faulkner had 4 hits in two games.  Sophomore left fielder Tyler Wehner had a great doubleheader with a homerun and two doubles.  The conference victory puts JCC alone on top of the MCCAA standings.  They head to Mott Community College on Monday to close out their 2009 conference season.  With Grand Rapids Community College one game behind, a sweep at Mott would give the Jets the solo MCCAA title.

JCC vs. Glen Oaks Community College (W 18-7, L 10-12)

Game One: The Jets had an impressive offensive performance in the first game Saturday.  18 Jets runs were scored by the 5th inning, resulting in a mercy-rule victory for the home team.  Dan Bream got the win on the mound, bringing his season record to 9-1.  The Jets' bats were on fire.  Leading the charge at the plate, sophomore right-fielder Christopher Harrison had 4 hits in 4 at bats, including a three run homerun over the left field fence.  That homerun puts Harrison with a team-high 9 on the season so far.  The Jets won this one 18-7

Game Two: The Jets 21-game winning streak came to an end in this close one.  JCC fell to GOCC 10-12 in this non-conference match-up.  Tom Cubic started the game on the mound for the Jets.  Ryan Agnew and Aaron Hudson each came in in relief. Freshman first baseman Nate Bell was able to hit a homerun and put up 2 RBIs in this tough loss for the Jets.

JCC vs. Delta College (W 18-6)

Game One: Fighting the rain, the Jets were able to get in game one of the double header.  The final score was 18-6, ending in a mercy rule.  Matt Beckman picked up his first win of the season. Chris Harrison, Cameron Worker, Tyler Wehner and Kevin Connors each had 2 hits in the game, with Connors going 3 for 3.  Tyler Wehner added a 3 run homerun.  Game two was cancelled due to weather.

JCC vs. Ancilla College (W 13-8, W 17-6)

Game One: The Jets won the contest by a score of 13-8. Tom Cubic was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Jets with multi-hit performances were Chris Harrison, Lee Finley, Cam Worker, Tyler Wehner and Eric Turk.  Lee Finley had one of his best games of the year, going 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs.  Wehner also chipped in a solo homerun.

Game Two: Game two was a non-conference matchup, but the Jets still came out with their offensive firepower.  Zak Gonzalez earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete game.  The final score of the ball game was 17-6.  Nate Bell had 2 doubles and 4RBIs. Will Faulkner and Bryan Smith each had 2 hits in the game.  The Jets move to 20-5 in conference play.

JCC vs. Ancilla College (W 15-14, W 21-3)

Game One: The Jets found themselves down by a score of 14-9 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. With a few walks and some timely hitting, they were able to score 5 runs and win in walk off fashion. Cam Worker was the hero at the plate, down by one run, Worker had the bases loaded and singled up the middle to score the tying and game winning run.  Worker had 3 hits and 4 RBIs on the day. Will Faulkner and Lee Finley each had 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Tyler Wehner added a 2 RBI double. Tom Cubic picked up the win for the Jets, it was Cubic's second win in as many days.

Game Two: The Jets won this contest by a score of 21-3. The game ended in the 5 inning mercy rule. Zak Gonzalez pitched 5 innings and earned the win on the mound, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 5. Multi hit performances came from Cam Worker and Tyler Wehner. The Jets are 17-5 in MCCAA play and 31-9 overall. The Jets will travel to Ancilla College on Tuesday.

JCC vs. Muskegon Community College (W 16-2, W 10-8)

Game One: Dan Bream moved his record to 7-1 throwing a complete 5 inning game, striking out 5, the game ending in a mercy rule.  The Jets' bats came alive against the Jayhawks winning by a score of 16-2. The Jets scattered 16 hits, with every starter having at least one hit. Lee Finley, Chris Harrison and Cam Worker each hit homeruns for the Jets. Multi hit performances came from Harrison, Finley, Worker, CJ Finch, Will Faulkner and Tyler Wehner.

Game Two: Tom Cubic came in relief of Matt Jacobson to pick up the win for the Jets. Mike Sprinkles picked up a save, throwing in the 7th inning. The score was 6-4 with the Jets leading, Head Coach Rick Smith looked over to the dugout for a pinch hitter. Smith sent freshman Nate Bell up to the plate with a runner on second, looking to break the game open. Bell delivered his first collegiate homerun, a 2 run blast in the 3rd inning to give the Jets a 4 run lead. Chris Harrison added 3 hits and 2 RBIs.  The Jets move to 15 wins and 5 losses in conference play, and stand alone atop the conference leader board.

JCC vs. Siena Heights (W 15-6)

The Jets used 5 different pitchers in the 9 inning non-conference game. Ryan Agnew picked up the win out of the bull pen throwing 2 innings. The Jets won the ball game by a score of 15-6. Multi hit performances included: Cam Worker, Chris Ciatti, Jose Pagan and Will Faulkner.

JCC vs. Macomb Community College (W 12-7, W 8-3)

Game One: Corey Cannon was the winning pitcher for the Jets. Throwing 5 innings with 5 strikeouts. The Jets won the ball game by a score of 12-7. Cameron Worker and Lee Finley each had 3 hits and 3 RBIs. Christopher Harrison added a 3 run homerun. Will Faulkner was 3 for 4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Game Two: Worker was the winning pitcher for the Jets. He threw 5 innings, giving up 3 runs , while striking out 4. The final score of the ball game was 8-3. Harrison and Faulkner each had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Tyler Wehner, CJ Finch and Jose Pagan each added 2 hits. The Jets move to 13 wins and 5 losses in MCCAA play.

JCC vs. Henry Ford Community College (W 10-9, W 6-2)

Game One: Zak Gonzalez started the game for the Jets, striking out 6 in 6 1/3 innings. Cameron Worker picked up the win out of the bullpen. Leading hitters for the Jets was Worker with 2 hits.  Will Faulkner was 2 for 3 with one RBI. CJ Finch added a RBI single.  The Jets were tied 9-9 in the bottom of the 7th when Jose Pagan singled in the game winning run. The Jets won by a score of 10-9.

Game Two: Mike Sprinkles threw a complete game 4 hitter to earn the win on the mound. Head Coach Rick Smith said, "It was Sprinkles' best outing of the year." Leading the hitters for the Jets were Jose Pagan and Cam Worker with 2 hits a piece. Chris Harrison and Tyler Wehner each added RBI doubles. The Jets won the game by a score of 6-2.  This cold weather win puts the Jets at a record of 24-9 overall on the season and 11-5 in conference play. This was the 7th straight conference victory for the Jets.

JCC vs. Lansing Community College (W 6-5, W 6-1)

Game One: Dan Bream earned his 7th win of the year. Mike Sprinkles came in to close the game out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first save of the year.  Chris Harrison led the Jets with 2 hits and a homerun. Lee Finley added 2 hits and a RBI. The Jets won by a final score of 6-5.

Game Two: Matt Jacobson continued his hot streak on the mound, throwing 6 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 earned run.  Jacobson moves to 6-1 on the season. Harrison picked up another homerun and went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. William Faulkner, Kevin Connors and Bryan Smith each chipped in 2 hits. The final score was 6-1, the Jets move to 9-5 in MCCAA play.

JCC vs. Davenport University (W 10-6)

Justin Wandell picked up his first collegiate win out of the bullpen, throwing two strong innings. Jose Pagan was 3 for 3 on the day.  Bryan Smith added 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Troy Hill added 2 hits in the 10-6 victory for the Jets in this nine inning contest.

JCC vs. Kellogg Community College (W 10-0, W 7-3)

Game One: Dan Bream continued his dominance on the mound against the conference leading KCC Bruins. Bream threw a complete game one hitter, allowing 0 runs while striking out five. Bream moves to 5-1 on the season with an ERA of 0.900. The Jets also had one of their best offensive games of the season.  Chris Harrison led the Jets hitting for the cycle, Harrison hit a triple, then a homerun, followed by a double. In what turned out to be the last at bat for the Jets, Harrison hit a single up the middle to score the runner on third and end the game, with a score of 10-0, in mercy rule. Harrison had 5 RBIs on the game. CJ finch , Will Faulkner and Bryan Smith each chipped in two hits for the Jets.

Game Two: Corey Cannon started game two, pitching 3 2/3 innings. Zak Gonzalez came in out of the bullpen and picked up the win for the Jets. CJ Finch and Will Faulkner had the only multi hit performance for the Jets in game two. Faulkner hit his first Homerun of the season and had three RBIs on the game.  Troy Hill had the biggest hit of the game, the Jets were down by a score of 3-1 when Hill hit a solo homerun to fire up the team. The Jets then followed with four more runs and won the ball game by a score of 7-3. The Jets move to 7-5 on conference play.

JCC vs. Grand Rapids Community College (L 5-6, W 6-1)

Game One: The Jets suffered another conference loss in extra innings. Falling to the Raiders in 8 innings by a final score of 6-5. Mike Sprinkles started the game for the Jets, going 7 innings and allowing 4 earned runs.  The Jets got things going in the fourth inning with back to back 2 run doubles by Bryan Smith and Tyler Wehner. The Jets led by a score of 5-4 going into the bottom of the eighth, but the bullpen could not hold off the Raiders, allowing two runs to end the game.

Game Two: Matt Jacobson took the mound in game two, using his sophomore leadership to make sure that the Jets got a split on the day.  Jacobson kept his hot pitching streak alive by throwing a complete game only allowing one run, while striking out 5. Cam Worker, Nate Bell and Will Faulkner each had two hits for the Jets. JCC won with a final score of 6-1.

03/31/09Jose Pagan

JCC vs. Kalamazoo Valley Community College (W 9-0, L 2-3) 

Game One: Dan Bream came out again with another strong performance by throwing a complete game. He struck out 7 with no runs allowed. The Jets won the contest by a score of 9-0.  Leading the Jets at the plate was Bryan Smith; going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and one RBI. Tyler Wehner went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Chris Ciatti also added a clutch 2 RBI single.

Game Two: The Jets suffered another tough loss in extra innings with KVCC. The final score was 2-3 in favor of the Cougars.  Tom Cubic suffered the loss out of the bull pen. The starting pitcher, Zachary Gonzalez threw 6 2/3 innings allowing five hits and two runs, while striking out 2.  Lee Finley, Chris Harrison, Cam Worker, Kevin Connors, and Bryan Smith each had one hit, accounting for the five hits in the ball game.  The Jets move to 4-4 in conference play and 16-8 overall.  They will continue conference play this Thursday at Grand Rapids Community College at 2:00 pm.

JCC vs. Kalamazoo Valley Community College (L 1-2, W 4-3)

Game One: This game needed 11 innings to decide a winner. Cameron Worker pitched 7 strong innings, only allowing one run. Daniel Bream suffered the loss out of the bull pen only allowing one run.  Christopher Harrison and William Faulkner were the only two Jets to have more than one hit in the game. Harrison also added a RBI single which was the only run that crossed the plate for the Jets. The Jets fell 1-2.

Game Two: The Jets bounced back earning a 2-3 victory over the Cougars. Corey Cannon earned the win for the Jets, pitching six innings and striking out seven. Harrison was 2 for 4 at the plate, while Jose Pagan was 2 for 3 with a run scored. The Jets move to 3-3 in conference play.

JCC vs. Glen Oaks Community College (W 10-8, W 9-2)

Game One: JCC won its first conference game of the 2009 campaign against the Glen Oaks Vikings.  Mike Sprinkles went 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 earned runs. Kyle Peters came in and struck out the only two batters he faced to get the Jets out of a jam.  Cam Worker picked up the save pitching for the Jets.  Christopher Harrison went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. Lee Finley went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Thomas Nathan Bell also went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 doubles. The final score for this contest was 10-8.

Game Two: The Jets swept the Vikings earning the game two victory. Sophomore Matthew Jacobson had his best pitching performance of the 2009 season going all seven innings with only 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5.  Leading the Jets at the plate was Christopher Harrison going 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, two doubles, a triple and 1 RBI. Lee Finley also went 3 for 4 on the outing. The Jets won the game with a final score of 9-2. The Jets face off in another conference match up against Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Saturday.

JCC vs. Lake Michigan College (L 1-2, L 5-7)

Game One: Despite a phenomenal pitching effort by Dan Bream, throwing 13 strikeouts in 9 innings and only allowing 1 earned run, the Jets fell to the Indians 1-2 in the tenth inning. Will Faulkner led the hitters going 3 for 4 with one double and the only RBI of the game.

Game Two: The Jets could not hold off a seventh inning surge by the Indians. JCC was leading 5-0 going into the seventh inning when LMC exploded for seven runs. Zachary Gonzalez suffered the loss despite only allowing a single earned run in 6 2/3 innings pitched. Tyler Wehner had 2 hits and 1 RBI, while Lee Finley chipped in 2 RBIs. The final score was 5-7.

03/22/09

JCC vs. Adrian College (W 6-4, W 4-3)

Game One: The Jets won this non-conference game by a score of 6-4. Ryan Agnew picked up the win out of the bullpen. Will Faulkner and Lee Finley both had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. The Jets used 4 different pitchers in the contest. Cam Worker picked up the save, coming in the 7th to shut down any last inning efforts from the Bulldogs.

Game Two: JCC won another game in walk-off fashion. The score was tied 3-3. Scott Wolvin led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double. He was advanced to 3rd base on a groundball from Lee Finley. Rick Smith then decided to pitch hit sophomore Kevin Connors to try to win the ball game. Connors battled the pitcher, eventually hitting a groundball to score Wolvin. The Jets won by a final score of 4-3. Freshman Clay Patton picked up his first collegiate win out of the bullpen. The Jets record now moves to 12-4, with conference play starting Tuesday against Lake Michigan College.

JCC vs. Sienna Heights University (W 13-2, W 18-2)

Game One: Mike Sprinkles looked mid season shape as he mowed through the Saints of Sienna Heights.  Sprinkles went 6 innings, striking out 7, allowing 0 hits and 0 runs. Kevin Connors let the Jets with 3 hits in 4 bats, driving in 4 runs.  CJ Finch went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored. The Jets won game one by a score of 13-2.

Game Two: Matt Jacobson picked up his second win of the season, throwing 5 innings and allowing 2 runs while striking out 3. Jose Pagan, Tyler Wehner, and Cam Worker each had 3 RBIs in the game.  Pagan and Worker each hit homeruns. Chris Harrison, celebrating his birthday went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. The Jets won the game by a final score of 18-2.

JCC vs. Sienna Heights University (W 6-3)

The Jets won this 9 inning game by a score of 6-3. Dam Bream continued his dominance on the mound, pitching 5 innings of shutout baseball. Bream moves to 3-0 on the season.  Leading the Jets at the plate was Cam Worker, going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and double.  Bryan Smith chipped in 3 hits. Justin Reed added a 2 RBIs single in the 9th inning to put the game out of reach.Cam Worker after homerun

JCC vs. Grand Rapids Community College (L 5-21)

The Jets fell to the Raiders of Grand Rapids Community College in this non-conference matchup. CJ Finch and Cam Worker each had solo homeruns for the Jets. The final score was 5-21 in this 9 inning game.

JCC vs. Itasca Community College(W 5-4, W 12-1)

Game One: The Jets needed every last out to win this ballgame. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, score tied at 4-4, Lee Finley hit a grounder to the first baseman scoring Will Faulkner to win the game in a walk-off. Sophomore Matt Jacobson picked up the win out of the bullpen, throwing 2 strong innings in relief of starter Cam Worker. Chris Harrison added his second homerun of the season, while Faulkner chipped in 2 hits for the Jets.

Game Two: Mike Sprinkles came out throwing hard, and the Jets bats came alive in the second game of the doubleheader. Sprinkles pitched all 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Sprinkles picked up his first win of the season. Jose Pagan led the Jets at the plate, going 4 for 4 on the game with 3 RBIs. Nate Bell, Will Faulkner and Tyler Wehner each had 2 hits, combining for 8 RBIs in the contest. The final score was 12-1 ending in a mercy. The Jets complete their spring trip with a record of 7-3.

JCC vs. Polk Community College (W 7-2)

Dan Bream brought his A game in this 9 inning contest. Bream earned the victory for the Jets going 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and only allowing 2 runs to score. Zak Gonzalez came in to pitch the final three innings of the ball game, the southpaw only allowed 1 hit in three innings of shutout baseball. Will Faulkner let the Jets with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Also adding some offense were Harrison, Finley and Turk with 2 hits a piece and all with one double. Jets move to 5-3 on the season.

JCC vs. St. Cloud Technical College (W 21-3)

The Jets came out swinging in the single 9 inning game ending in a score of 21-3, the game was called short due3 to the mercy rule after 7 innings. The Jets had 18 total hits and 18 RBIs. Multi hit performances came from Jose Pagan, Chris Harrison, Tyler Wehner, Will Faulkner and Lee Finley. Pagan also added his second homerun of the season. Faulkner had a team high 4 RBIs. Tom Cubic earned the win on the mound pitching 4 innings of no hit baseball. The Jets move to 4-3 on the young season

JCC vs. Lincoln Community College (L 2-4, W 16-9)

Game One: Freshman Aaron Hudson made his collegiate debut on the mound for the Jets.  Hudson pitched 5 innings only allowing one hit and one earned run. Unfortunately for the Jets, they only tallied 5 hits offensively. Tyler Wehner was 3 for 4 with an RBI. CJ Finch and Cam Worker added the other 2 hits for the Jets. The Jets fell 2-4.

Game Two: With an inspirational speech from Head Coach Rick Smith, the Jets cam out on fire in game 2 of the double header scoring 8 runs in the first 3 innings.  Corey Cannon won his college debut pitching 5 innings with 4 strikeouts.  Every starter for the Jets earned an RBI in the 16-9 victory. Leading the Jets was Tyler Wehner with 2 hits and a Homerun. Kevin Connors and Chris Harrison each added 2 hits and 2 RBIs. The Jets move to 3 and 3 on the season.

JCC vs. Burlington County Community College (L 3-4, L 10-6)

Game One: The Jets suffered their first loss of the season with Mike Sprinkles going 5 1/3 innings on the mound. Troy Hill and Lee Finley shined at the plate with 2 hits a piece.  The Jets played hard, but fell just short of a victory in the final inning of the game, losing 3-4.

Game Two: The Jets dropped the second game of the double header with a score of 10-6. Matt Jacobson suffered the loss pitching 4 and 2/3 innings.  Freshman Chris Ciatti earned his first collegiate hits going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Cory Burris and Kevin Connors each added 2 hits, with an RBI a piece.

JCC vs. Dakota County Tech Community College (W 14-2, W 7-4)

Game One: Sophomore ace Dan Bream won the season opener for the Jets, pitching 5 innings while striking out 6. Chris Harrison led the Jets offensive attack going 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs and a Homerun. Will Faulkner, Lee Finley and Jose Pagan each chipped in 2 hits. Tyler Wehner added 3 RBIs. The game ended in a mercy rule with a score of 14-2.

Game Two: Zak Gonzalez earned the win for the Jets moving the team to 2-0. Leading the Jets offensively again was Harrison with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. Jose Pagan added 2 hits and 2 RBIs. JCC won the game by a score of 7-4.
