Jets baseball’s Nate Bell named all-star in summer league

Jackson Community College baseball player Nate Bell has been selected to play in the Cotton States Baseball League North’s All-Star Game Saturday.

Bell, a 2008 graduate of Tecumseh High School, has played one for JCC, earning a 3.232 grade point average while excelling on the baseball field as well. He had a .289 batting average and a .983 fielding percentage playing for the league champion JCC Jets. Over the summer he is playing for the Cotton States Baseball League, a wooden bat league in north Mississippi, described as a pro-style, four-team summer collegiate league for players with remaining college eligibility. This summer he has hit .295, with one home run and 12 runs batted in just 44 at bats. Defensively, he has a .991 fielding percentage this summer, with only one error.

“We are excited that Nate is continuing to do well over the summer,” said Rick Smith, JCC head baseball coach. “It is great to have a JCC athlete recognized on this level. Nate will be a great leader for us next year, both on the diamond and in the classroom.”
