JCC student athletes named Academic All-Americans

Seven Jackson Community College student athletes have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association’s list of Academic All-Americans for the 2008-09 year.

To qualify as an Academic-All American, a student-athlete must have completed at least 48 credits and achieved at least a 3.6 grade point average. Distinguished Academic All-Americans have achieved at least a 3.8 GPA.

“Excelling as a student scholar while participating in athletics is a significant challenge at any level, but to be honored as a college Academic All-American, with all of the hours of hard work and sacrifice that intercollegiate sports entails, is truly admirable,” said Steve Bloomfield, JCC athletic director. “It has been my sincere honor to work with Jessica, Krista, Christine, Michele, Alex, William and C.J. These scholar athletes are representatives of our first two recruiting classes, and their efforts stand as a clear example for other scholar athletes to follow.

“These folks have been excellent leaders within our athletics program and while we are proud of their accomplishments, we wish we could keep them here for a few more years. All seven student athletes are moving on to four-year colleges or universities and four of these individuals will be competing in intercollegiate athletics at their next institution.”
