Jets pitchers sign with four-year schools
Two members of the Jackson Community College Jets baseball team have signed with four-year universities to play Division II baseball for next academic year.
Michael Sprinkles, a right-handed pitcher from Carleton, Mich. (Airport High School), will play for head coach Walt Head at Saginaw Valley State University in 2009-2010. Sprinkles is the second Jet this year to sign with the SVSU Cardinals, joining fellow pitcher Matt Jacobson who signed this winter with the Cardinals. SVSU competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. As a pitcher for the Jets this year, Sprinkles went 5-1 with a 4.229 earned run average. He pitched 55 innings with 31 strikeouts. He plans to study electrical engineering at Saginaw Valley after finishing his associate degree from JCC this spring.
Daniel Bream, 2009 All-Region XII and All-MCCAA First Team member from Coldwater, Mich. (Coldwater High School) has committed to play with the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. Bream also joins a fellow Jet at the next level. Outfielder Chris Harrison signed with the Muleriders this April. Southern Arkansas was ranked No. 1 nationally 10 out of the 14 weeks this past season and finished with a record of 52-11. Bream had an outstanding career with JCC baseball. He was named the National Junior College Pitcher of the Week April 5, 2009. Leading the pitching staff all season, Bream set a high standard, ending with a record of 10-1 and a 1.388 ERA. In 71.1 innings pitched, Bream got 69 strikeouts. He leaves JCC with an associate degree and holding baseball records in season wins, season innings pitched, career wins, career innings pitched and career strikeouts.
JCC head baseball coach Rick Smith said, “I am still looking for two quality pitchers to fill the shoes of Dan and Mike. This will not be an easy task to complete. I wish both of them the best of luck in their future endeavors, and not to forget that they started their career as a Jet.
