Spring band concert features Young Artist winner

Jackson Community Concert Band’s spring concert will feature the winner of this year’s Young Artist Competition, saxophonist Eddie Goodman. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 8 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center.

Goodman is a senior music major at Michigan State University majoring in music education and saxophone performance who calls Mason his home. He will perform the “Concerto for Saxophone” by Alexander Glazounov.

In addition the concerto, the band will perform “Toccata” by Girolamo Frescobaldi; “The Incidental Suite” by Claude T. Smith; “The Little English Girl,” a march, by D. Delle Cese; a beautiful setting of the spiritual “Where You There” by Fred J. Allan; and one of the greatest band works ever written, the “Lincolnshire Posey” by Percy Grainger. The concert will be presented in the magnificent Harold Sheffer Music Hall in JCC’s Potter Center. Tickets are only $5 and may be purchased at the Potter Center Box Office or at the door.

The Jackson Community Concert Band is comprised of JCC students and community members, under the direction of Conductor Ronald L. Douglass, associate professor of music.
