Explore today's genetics advances with Sam Rhine conference
Jackson Community College will host a Genetics Update Conference with noted educator and speaker Sam Rhine on Friday, Feb. 27 in the Harold Sheffer Music Hall, Potter Center, on the Jackson campus.
Rhine has visited JCC for several years to share the latest info with high school and college students regarding developments in the field of genetics research. These one-day conferences for biology teachers, students, medical professionals and the community are designed to teach the latest in genetic advances, hot research areas and career opportunities.
Topics to be covered include the human genome project, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering and organ transplantation, producing of human tissues and organs in the laboratory, new ways to create human stem cells without the use of eggs or embryos, and more.
Rhine takes biology from the textbook to the heart by posing ethical dilemmas each will face as technological advances continue. He is an adjunct instructor with Indiana University, and lectures to teachers, nurses and students across the U.S. annually. He has taught classes at several colleges and universities, and he has made more than 8,500 presentations for over 3,750,000 teenagers in the United States, Canada and Europe. He has been Indiana Academy of Science “Speaker of the Year” and Indiana Academy of Pediatrics National “Speaker of the Year” Nominee.
This conference will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. This conference is free to JCC students and staff with identification.
