JCC hires golf coaches
Jackson Community College has hired coaches for its new golf program and will soon be hosting tryouts for women’s golf.
Mark Jednak, Jackson-area golf instructor with the Michigan Golf Academy, has been named head coach of the women’s team. “This is a great opportunity for everyone. The ladies I have talked with so far are eager to get moving,” Jednak said. “Jackson is a hot bed for golf, the talent pool locally is fantastic. We will have a strong and competitive team.”
Tryouts for the women’s team will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Cascades Golf Course in Jackson. Men’s tryouts will be announced.
Walt Paszkiet of Jackson has been named head coach for the men’s team. “I am really excited about the opportunity to coach at a place like Jackson Community College. I am looking forward to building the men’s team here into a prominent golf program in the state.”
JCC officials decided over the summer to start a golf program for men and women, and Athletic Director Steve Bloomfield has been searching for coaches to help get the programs started.
“I am excited to have Mark and Walt on board to lead our golf programs into the future,” Bloomfield said. “Jackson is a top notch golf town with a ton of local talent. I know our coaches are looking forward to the recruitment process and showcasing Jackson area golf. It is my hope that our program might draw non-traditional aged students to participate as well as high school student athletes.”
The College participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.
