Women's volleyball team heading to regional

Congratulations to the 2008 Jackson Community College Jets women’s volleyball team, who have gained a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Region 12 Championship, to be held Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Grand Rapids Community College’s Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.

“This is incredible for a second-year program to make it to the tough Region 12 tournament,” said Leigh Ann Swihart, head coach for the Jets. “To have a program go from 14-22 to 23-13 is fantastic. I am excited for the girls because all of the time they have put into this program is paying off for them. I am very optimistic about our chances and feel that we have a chance at making it to the national championship.”

The Jets will play in the semifinal match at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. The women’s volleyball team plays in Division II of the NJCAA Region 12, which includes 29 colleges in Indiana, Ohio and the lower Michigan peninsula. The Jets are also part of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association’s Western Conference.
