College plans to break ground on new Whiting Hall renovations

Jackson Community College will break ground Monday, Oct. 13 for the planned renovations and new addition to Justin Whiting Hall on the Jackson campus.

The groundbreaking ceremony will occur at 5 p.m. on the south side of Whiting Hall. JCC officials, Board of Trustees members, local legislators and more will participate.  Refreshments will follow, and the community is invited.

The Michigan Legislature recently approved JCC’s $21.9 million capital outlay project request for renovation and expansion of Whiting Hall. College President Dr. Daniel J. Phelan has put the project on the fast track, with demolition starting by Nov. 1. Plans are for reconstruction of the entire east and west wings of Whiting Hall, as well as expansion of the west wing. Renovation will allow for expanding of nursing and allied health career programs, new programs in biosciences and entrepreneurship, and will include advanced classroom technologies, state-of-the-art instructional laboratories and related equipment. The College previously renovated the center core of the building to create the Rawal Center for Health Professions.
